Friendship (And, Sort Of, Book Research)

Last December, I promised myself that life would slow down in the new year.  I’d have time to catch my breath, time to do the social things I want to do, time to get my writing done, time to try new things with writing…

And this year has been even busier than last.  I honestly don’t know where the days go, but I spin, spin, spin from one project to the next, from one obligation to the next…

Yesterday afternoon, my college roommate came to town.  She’s just hear for a day, on her way to far-off places, but she’ll be back in a week or so for a somewhat more extended stay.  We stayed up last night, talking till after midnight, and I suspect that my voice will be scratchy by the time I drop her off at the airport this afternoon.

There’s something about old friends — friends that I’ve known for more of my life than I haven’t known them — that allows shortcuts in communication, and inside jokes, and old stories, and almost-forgotten secrets.  I’m enjoying spending time with J, and I’m also getting recharged to write the scenes in SINGLE WITCH’S SURVIVAL GUIDE, where Jane and Melissa resolve the problems of their lives.  Or try to, at least.

Of course, while I’m being social, I’m not getting as much writing done…

Par for the course.  Par for the 2013 course…
