Settling Into a New Home
Nineteen years ago, I launched my first website, promoting the one book I had available for sale, The Glasswrights’ Apprentice. That site was designed by Sharon Keir Patry and her husband, Frank Patry, and it was hosted on sff.net, where most of my science fiction- and fantasy-writing friends had their pages.
For years, I merely updated Sharon and Frank’s code, changing background colors and a couple of graphics. Eventually, I became brave enough to overhaul the entire site, and then I discovered WordPress, where I played with a number of different templates. Throughout all those changes, the guys at sff.net provided great support.
Alas, a few weeks ago, sff.net announced they were closing their doors. They gave me plenty of warning, and they offered a great deal of support as I found a new ISP. Two days ago, I hit the “Change” button, and my site moved from its home of nineteen years to a new corner of the Internet.
I’m pretty sure the website itself is working as expected. I’ve encountered a few unexpected, um, challenges with blog posts, so I’ll be working on those for a bit. If you find things that don’t work as you expect them to, drop me a line, and I’ll see what I can do to fix them.
Farewell, sff.net! You did a great job!
